The long-running feud between outspoken UFC stars Colby Covington and Michael Chandler has erupted once again in dramatic fashion. Chandler criticized Covington after his loss against Leon Edwards in the title bout. Covington aimed insulting comments at Chandler, the former Bellator champion, who clapped back in ruthless fashion on social media.
This latest war of words demonstrates that tensions are continuing to mount between the welterweight and lightweight fighters, both known for their brash trash talk and intense rivalries.
Colby Covington slams Michael Chandler
Colby faced Leon Edwards in the title bout but failed to back his trash talks and was handed a split-decision loss. After the fight concluded, Michael Chandler took a dig at Colby. He wrote on X, “Through three rounds, the guy who calls out the “triggered” sure is afraid to pull the trigger.”
“Through four rounds Colby has taken 1776 punches to the face and his only offense is a few sloppy takedowns.”
“If Colby’s offense tonight was an accurate depiction of the U.S. strength, we would have never gotten our independence from Britain, lost WWI and got demoralized in WWII by a landslide. Colby, you suck.”
Covington was in complete disagreement with Chandler’s comments. He responded, “Michael Chandler, who?”
Colby Covington stated this on the PBD Podcast earlier this week, responding to comments from the UFC lightweight contender. “That guy was getting knocked out in Bellator, that guy is a complete scrub. What’s his UFC record? Like 1-4? We’re talking about that? My win percentage in the UFC is like over 90%, it’s just, I’m an all-time great in this division.”
He continued, “I’ve done things in this division that people aren’t ever going to do. I’m the only fighter to ever go to the White House and hang out with the sitting President. I’m the only one to ever have the first family, front row, I’m the only one to ever have a President out there supporting him. Dapping me up before I walk in the octagon.”
He added, “He can keep talking all he wants,” Colby Covington concluded, referring to Michael Chandler. “But, there’s no substance. Just another guy who is all talk, no walk.”
After his disappointing loss at UFC 296, Colby has continued to trash people with his words. He continued to mock Leon’s deceased father even after the fight.
Michael Chandler claps back at Colby Covington
However, Michael Chandler, known for his resilience inside and outside the cage, doesn’t stay silent in the face of Covington’s verbal assault. After Colby’s remarks on the podcast, Michael Chandler took to X and replied to Colby’s comments in a savage way.
Michael stated: “I’d respond, but I’m fearful of his ambulance chancing, cut-rate attorney…I have enough on my plate….I don’t need a bogus defamation suit based on my accurate tweets. Fighters don’t sue fighters for fighting. How’s your “brain damage” kid?”
The bitter line at the end, where he called Covington a brain-damaged kid, made Chandler look like a savage person and was a strong reply to Colby.
With both men known for their vicious trash talk, this rivalry already has the makings of a bitter grudge match should they ever meet in the Octagon. For now, their battle looks set to play out in the media as Chandler and Covington trade verbal barbs. Michael Chandler was looked at as a potential opponent for Conor Mcgregor’s comeback, but that too lies in uncertainty.
