Conor McGregor will finally make the much-anticipated walk to the octagon this year after a gap of almost two years. According to ‘The Notorious’, he will commence his official training for his bout against Michael Chandler ‘shortly’ at Big Bear, California. The former UFC two-division champ in a now-deleted tweet said “We will commence camp in big bear shortly”.
In response to that, another rising UFC superstar ‘Sugar’ Sean O Malley has expressed his willingness to train with the former two-division champ. O’Malley in a recent episode of his podcast said “Yeah, he went off. I didn’t see that tweet. Though he’s probably buzzed, that was funny.”
He further added, “I mean I tweeted at him. He said he’s going to big bear. I said, “Can I come?” I think that would be so sick. Go up there for a couple of weeks. I’ll get my own f***ing place to stay, eat, sleep, and all that. Just train with him. That would be f***ing sweet…” He continued, “I never really got to sit down and never talk to him either, but that would be f***ing cool to watch them train.”
O’Malley was last seen inside the octagon against Petr Yan and despite being a massive underdog, O’Malley squeezed in a split-decision victory. Sean who is currently ranked number two in the bantamweight division is soon expected to be presented with a title shot opportunity.
How is Conor McGregor preparing for his next fight?
Conor McGregor will fight top lightweight contender Michael Chandler in late summer this year. The fight reportedly will not take place at lightweight as both the fighters will up the stakes and fight at the 170lb division. Talking about the fight McGregor said,
“For Chandler, I’m just too slick for him, I’m too skilled for him, and he’s not fought someone like me. I’ve fought someone like him, though…It’s just in general. It’s the mixed martial arts style, right? The short wrestler. It’s just kind of MMA, isn’t it? It ain’t nothing peculiar…or unsure of. I’ve fought against that style (for) many, many years.”
Why it makes sense for Sean O’Malley to train with Conor McGregor!
Conor has not been super active inside the octagon for a good while now and the UFC has been desperately looking for the next big star who can attract fans the way ‘Mystic Mac’ once did. Both Paddy Pimblett and Sean O’Malley have been frontrunners in the race to become the next ‘Notorious’.
This is why it makes sense for ‘Suga’ Sean to share a training camp with the Irish. The former Dana White’s contender series winner can learn a thing or two about showmanship and utilize that experience hopefully somewhere down the line.
