Bobby Green and Grant Dawson are scheduled to fight in the lightweight division at UFC Fight Night on October 8. This bout will serve as the main event for UFC Vegas 80.
Despite Dawson being ranked 10th in the lightweight division, Green believes he is the more popular fighter. ‘King’ always shows up to put on a show but anticipates that his main event opponent will make that a tough task to accomplish.
Bobby Green hopes to continue his winning streak against Grant Dawson
At the UFC Vegas 80 media day, Bobby Green expressed that upon getting familiar with Grant Dawson, he found his opponent to be rather dull and inclined to engage in a 25-minute grappling contest for victory. Nonetheless, ‘King’ is confident that he can transform Dawson into an exciting fighter by encouraging him to stand and exchange strikes.
“Man, I didn’t even know who that guy was. I never even heard of him, and that goes to his body of work. I think the issue is that like, he’s been kind of boring, you know? He’s been in the Apex fighting,” Bobby Green said at UFC Vegas 80 media day about Grant Dawson.
Green further went on to say and acknowledge that Dawson has had some decent finishes in recent years but it is Bobby Green who is being tested here. Green said that the test would be for him to make a boring guy exciting in the octagon. “That’s the real fight,” he said.
Although Bobby Green wasn’t familiar with Grant Dawson, a sizeable betting underdog ahead of UFC Vegas 80. However, Green has confidence that he will be able to get the takedowns and eventually finish Dawson on the feet.
Bobby Green enters his UFC Vegas 80 main event coming off a third-round submission win over Tony Ferguson back in July. Before that, he had the “No Contest” against Jared Gordon and lost back-to-back fights to Drew Dober and Islam Makhachev.
Bobby Green talks about potential bout with Max Holloway
During the media day for UFC Vegas 80, a reporter inquired about Bobby Green’s preferred coaching opponent on Ultimate Fighter. Green’s response was that he would opt for someone with ‘spunk’ or ‘flair.’
The first fighter that Green named, was Paddy The Baddy Pimblett but later went on to dismiss him by calling the English fighter “Weirdo.”
Bobby further went on to evaluate Dustin Poirier and Max Holloway. Green said that it would be a sick fight and agreed that Poirier got that “Spunk.” When asked by the interviewer whether he would fight Holloway or not, Bobby Green replied and said that it would be a sick fight.
Bobby showed respect for Max Holloway as he appreciated Holloway’s record for having the record of most significant strikes in one fight. Green said that Max is “Dope” and that he has nothing but respect for him. “We gonna talk shit, too. and beat each other up. That’s gonna be a great ass fight,” Green added.
