A few weeks ago UFC President Dana White confirmed in an interview that Colby Covington would be the next one to challenge Leon Edwards for the welterweight title. Following this announcement, welterweight stars Gilbert Burns and Belal Muhammad expressed their disappointment towards Colby getting a third title shot.
In the recently concluded UFC 287 media interview, Remember the Name wore a t-shirt with Colby’s broken face on it. During this conversation, one of the interviewers questioned, Belal about the shirt he was wearing.
“I wanted to wear this shirt to bring the clown of Miami. I’m hoping that he shows up. I know he has a restraining order or he’s not allowed to come in the building. But I am hoping this would bring him out. And you know I just wanted to show the world like they brought him to London and wanted to make him this big thing.”
“But I want to show them that I’m in Miami. I’m wearing this shirt to show how much of a clown he is.”
Belal Muhammad also disclosed that he was ready to be the backup for Leon Edwards vs Kamaru Usman fight and claimed that Colby Covington doesn’t deserve this title shot due to his record in the last four fights.
Belal Muhammad reveals UFC turned down the idea of him fighting Colby Covington at UFC 286
While having a conversation with MMA Junkie and other reporters backstage at Miami, Belal Muhammad said that it was surprising seeing UFC turning down an opportunity to book a fight between him and Colby Covington at UFC 286 that took place in London last month. Later in the interview, Belal also shared his thoughts on Chaos calling him racist.
“The kid’s the biggest joke in the world. Like the stuff, he says it’s very stupid and it’s ignorant. The fact that he would scream that just shows how dumb he is. Like there’s no wit in the stuff that he comes back with.”
Not only did Belal Muhammad take a dig at Colby Covington but he also made some comments on the UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards and surging superstar Khamzat Chimaev.
“I mean like I have a hatred for Colby right like I really want to punch him in the mouth. But Leon he’s still pissing me off. He’s just acting like nonchalantly like I don’t deserve it and there’s nobody else in the division. My bro you were just where I’m at three years ago.”
Belal also said he would move up to middleweight and face Khamzat Chimaev or Sean Strickland if the UFC decides to offer Jorge Masvidal a title shot after UFC 287.
“I think at that point I’m just gonna go 185 honestly. I’m gonna go look for Chimaev again. He moved up, I can fight at 185. I’m not worried about it. So I’ll move up and look for him maybe he will come out.”
With Gamebred losing, it is highly unlikely there will be a change in plans for the next title matchup. This means that Belal Muhammad will stay at welterweight. Do let us know in the comments section who you think should Remember the Name fight next.
