The Magpies enjoyed a 4-0 victory, pushing themselves to the number 5 spot on the league table. Sandro Tonali also made an appearance in the game, and the Italian was treated with applause and cheers.
The Geordies have displayed banners featuring Tonali with the words ‘Forza Tonali’ emblazoned upon them. Moreover, when his name is announced, he garners resounding cheers from the St. James Park crowd. Additionally, the 23-year-old garners a standing ovation from the fans as he steps onto the pitch, demonstrating their love and unwavering support.
Club manager Eddie Howe has also talked in his player’s support: “He’s had a very, very difficult couple of weeks. He’s been dealing with a lot and from what I can see, I see him for a few hours a day. He’s handling himself really well and he’s dealing with his emotions incredibly strongly, but underneath that, I’m sure there’s a lot going on.”
Sandro Tonali betting scandal verdict
Sandro Tonali has been sent back from international duty amid claims of involvement in the Italian betting scandal. Italian media reports suggest that the former AC Milan player has confessed to a gambling addiction. This revelation potentially exposes Tonali to a three-year ban and a €25,000 fine.
Newcastle United claimed that they had no idea about the player’s gambling addiction when they signed him in the summer. The Magpies are still supporting their employee, saying: “Sandro is fully engaging with the investigation and will continue to cooperate with all relevant authorities,” Newcastle confirmed in a statement. “He and his family will continue to receive the club’s full support.”
We are yet to see what punishment Sandro Tonali receives, but it is good to see that he still has the support of his club and the fans.
