Marcus Rashford needs to win more trophies at Manchester United if he is to be compared to Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland, according to Wayne Rooney.
Rashford has been in electric form this season for United. He has found the back of the net 30 times in 56 overall games across all competitions. It was his best season by far and helped the club a lot in winning the Carabao Cup and also leading to the Champions League qualification.
His performances have made him one of the most valuable players in Man Utd, resulting in him getting a new five-year contract.
Wayne Rooney’s take on Marcus Rashford
Ex-Manchester United forward and legend Wayne Rooney was recently asked about Rashford. There, like any fan of the club, he expressed his happiness at the news that Rashford has signed a new deal.
“I think Marcus Rashford is an incredible talent. I’m delighted he’s signed a new deal. I think the next five years are going to be important in his legacy.”
But the now-DC United manager also warned that if Rashford is to be compared to the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland, he has to do something very fast. He believes that Rashford needs to win more trophies at Old Trafford if he is to truly become one of the best.
“He can score a lot of goals but if he really wants to go to that level of which Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland are at he really needs to be the man to get Manchester United back to winning titles and I hope he can.”
Indeed, in recent years, Rashford and United have struggled to win any trophies. In fact, when they won the Carabao Cup this season, they broke a six-year trophy drought. The Englishman will hope to help his club win some trophies soon if he wants to be one of the best.
Details of Marcus Rashford’s new deal at Man Utd
His current deal will have expired in June 2024, and United considered his renewal a priority since January. Now, it looks like he will be ready to give more for his club in the following seasons as well. The club was in contact with the player’s agents for quite some time.
And now as confirmed by the Daily Mail, Rashford has signed a new deal at his childhood club.

He has signed a new deal until 2028, and his salary will increase from £250k weekly to £300k. This shadows the departure of longtime goalkeeper and veteran David De Gea, who left for free after contract negotiations broke down. He was their highest earner at the time.
Furthermore, along with various add-ons that are related to winning trophies and individual performances, the five-year deal could reach as much as £78M.
As he becomes the club’s highest earner, he will be the fifth highest-paid player in the Premier League. He is only behind Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling, Manchester City’s Erling Braut Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne, and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.
Marcus Rashford has been at United since the age of seven and has been one of their most successful academy graduates in recent years. He has 128 goals in 373 appearances for the club since making his debut in 2016.
