Emanuel Navarrete currently holds the WBO junior featherweight title and the WBO featherweight title. This Mexican fighter lost his only bout against Daniel Argueta, but after that he never tasted defeat in his 37 professional boxing events.
Vaquero has successfully defended both titles several times. Now he has been preparing to move up in weight and vie for the third WBO title in a different weight division, if all monetary issues are solved.
“I think that depends on the opportunities that will present themselves at 130 or the opportunities that will appear at 126 pounds. It all depends on that, whether or not we stay at 126 or if we move up to 130.”

Both Shakur Stevenson and Oscar Valdez Jr have been mentioned as potential opponents for Navarrete, but the Mexican prefers to fight the other Mexican Valdez due to his fighting style.
“I think the more interesting fight of the two would be against Valdez because of the styles. People would like to see me fight him then against Shakur, but again, because of the styles. I want to fight either one of them.”
Shakur Stevenson missed the weight in September which resulted in the vacancy of WBO junior lightweight title. After that, in early November, the WBO ordered Navarrete to face off against Valdez for the vacant title.
The negotiations appear to have been successful, and the fight will take place as the ESPN main event bout on February 2, 2023, at the Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona.
