Weeks after father’s $150 million transfer, Lionel Messi’s son enrolls in U-12 academy of Inter Miami

It has only been two months since Lionel Messi left his former club PSG to join the American club Inter Miami. The Argentine has scored many goals for his team and also helped them win the MLS league for the first time. Now his oldest son, Thiago Messi has followed in his father’s footsteps and joined the club’s U-12 academy.

It does not come as a surprise to the fans since we see things like this happening all the time. The same thing happened when Lionel Messi played for Barcelona and PSG so his son now going ahead and joining Inter Miami is something that everyone expected. Let us look at the details of Thiago’s joining.

Messi’s arrival at the club was announced via a big event but Thiago’s addition to the U-12 team roster was not anything like that which is understandable. The little one still has a long way to go to catch up to his father and he has already started his journey. Thiago Messi’s addition to the team was announced on the club’s website on 26 August 2023.

Thiago Messi is one of the 150 players who were picked to join Miami’s youth team. The U-12 team will participate in the Florida Academy League. Owner David Beckham’s son also used to be a part of this team before he left to join Brentford B in January. “We want to give a warm welcome to our competitive players, their dedicated parents, and our hard-working staff.”, said the club officials. All that is left to see is how Messi’s son performs for his new team.

Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami  agreement is worth up to $150 million

After departing from his former club PSG in June 2023 many clubs from the Middle East tried to lure Lionel Messi with their lucrative offers. Barcelona was also keen on signing him once again and welcome him back as a legend but the player decided to go in a different direction. In July 2023 Messi joined Inter Miami for a 2 year contract and the player is doing wonders at his new club.

Though Lionel Messi’s salary may seem low when compared to the 1.6 billion dollars he could have made at Al-Hilal, it is still not something to scoff at. Reports claim that his whole contract is worth 125-150 million dollars excluding the revenue he generates from companies like Adidas, Apple, etc. The Argentine earns 55 million dollars before taxes and 31.7 million dollars afterward making him the highest-paid athlete of the club.
