Weeks after shocking mid-match US Open retirement, Matteo Berrettini and girlfriend’s PDA steals the show in Ryder Cup

Wimbledon finalist and world no. 65 Matteo Berrettini has had a mixed bag of results in 2023. Matchups with Andy Murray and Carlos Alcaraz in grand slams, along with recurring injuries, have not helped the Italian’s cause. Despite his on-court struggles, the Hugo Boss model and curly-haired competitor is not one to shy away from the spotlight.

A horror injury at the US Open has left Matteo with time off from the court and the ravishing racquet player is making appearances at major sporting events around the globe.

Matteo Berrettini and Melissa Satta heat up Ryder Cup

The Golf Ryder Cup is set to get underway in Rome, and celebrity athletes from different facets of the sports industry are thronging the event to share their enthusiasm for the world-renowned tournament.

Amidst the presence of Novak Djokovic, Carlos Sainz, and others, Matteo Berretini managed to send social media into a frenzy with his actions. His attendance was a certainty, given that his girlfriend, Melissa Satta was the presenter of the event on day one. However, the icing on the cake in terms of paparazzi sensationalism was when the couple shared a kiss together.

“I am very excited and proud for this role.”, Melissa said joyfully.

“I’ll let her do the talking.”, Berrettini told the journalists clearly.

Djokovic, Sainz, and Berrettini also snapped a photo together that has gone viral on social media.

The two lovebirds got together in January 2023, in a move that has brought in a myriad of criticisms aimed at Matteo. Commentators on the sport have lambasted Berrettini for spending extra focus on his personal life, leading to a dip in form and a lackluster physical regimen.

“I can not conceive how a relationship can allow you not to do your job, but people talk. We live in the era of social media, where everyone can say anything.”, he had said.

Ankle injury ends Berrettini’s US Open journey

Matteo Berrettini has come clean with the status of his current ankle injury, sustained during his second-round US Open match.

Facing Arthur Rinderknech, the Italian rolled his ankle midway through the second set. The resulting injury had him rolling on the floor in pain as he clutched his twisted ankle desperately. He abandoned the match while trailing Rinderknech 4-6, 3-5, and had to hobble off the court.

A sonorous New York crowd roared in applause as he left the stadium. It was a tournament that promised much success for Berrettini, especially after his straight-set demolition of Ugo Humbert in the first round. Unfortunately for the 27-year-old, the latest injury cut his participation short and served as an addition to the litany of injuries that have plagued him in recent times.

“I have been working closely with medical experts since I left the court. We are now waiting for scan results to determine the best next steps.” the former world no.6 said.

“Thank you very much for all the kind messages,” he added. “I will provide a further update soon.”

Matteo Berrettini has often been rated one of the most good-looking men in tennis. But, will he look beyond the inane and answer his critics with an effective comeback? Let us know in the comments section below.
