Jalen Brunson was drafted by the Dallas Mavericks in the 2018 NBA Draft as the second-round 33rd pick. And in the year 2022, the player moved to the New York Knicks by signing a big agreement.
Jalen’s move to Knicks sparked huge criticism over the deal taking a long time to finally get settled. The basketball player initially wanted to sign a four-year $56 million contract extension after his current contract with the Mavs ended.
However, as the Mavs didn’t ask him to sign for an extension till the trade deadline, he opted for signing a $104 million four-year contract with the Knicks. Jalen was very much interested in signing the offer from Mavericks because at thatstime he was already a star player within the team and focusing on establishing a solid base.

After the deal between Knicks and the former Dallas player was finalized, the Knicks were accused of engaging in a contract conversation with Jalen even before his free agency period began.
Many think it was a good decision for the two times NCAA champion both in terms of financial gain and family ties as the New York Knicks is Jalen’s hometown team. When asked about his decision to join Knicks, the player said, ‘Business came knocking on the door. It was time to just at least look. I had to do my due diligence and look and see what was out there.’
