Louis van Gaal is a celebrated name among the league of the most powerful football managers of the world who has achieved 20 major honors till now as a result of his managerial excellence. He is a former football player and manager of the Netherlands national team.
During the quarter-final game between Argentina and Netherlands, Messi was spotted having altercations with the manager on-field which sparked a lot of speculations about the incident.
Not only that, while making a ravishing goal out of a penalty when only 17 minutes were remaining of the game, the seven Ballon d’Or winner expressed his joy by cupping his ears and pointing towards the manager.
During a post-interview, when he was asked about the reason behind his gesture, Messi said, ‘“I feel disrespected by Van Gaal after his pre-game comments, and some Dutch players spoke too much during the game,”.
Messi’s anger was exacerbated due to the alleged unfair treatment they received from the referee too during the game. And his fellow teammate Martinez accused the referee of favoring the Netherlands. At this issue, he later said,
“I thought we controlled the game really well. We went 2-0 up, basically, we controlled the game. The ref was just giving everything for them.”
“He gave 10 minutes (stoppage time) for no reason. He was giving free-kicks outside the box for them, like two, three times.”
Throughout the entire match, the Paris Saint-Germain star wasn’t happy at all with the management and overall, the treatment he and his team received from the Netherlands’ manager. From the beginning, Argentina was leading the game but their opponent soon overcame the gap scoring two goals within a short time span that led to a draw.
