You may know Riot as the developer behind the smash hit Valorant or League of Legends. Now, we have another game joining the ranks in the form of a 2v2 fighting game.
First announced in 2021, the game has been in development for the last few years. Finally, we have a name and an expected release date for the title.
2XKO : What is Riot’s Project L ?
Riot has named the latest title 2XKO. It was formerly known as Project L. The game was showcased last year at EVO 2023, where players got their first taste of the game mechanics.
The game has a similar feel to tag assist games, such as Marvel vs. Capcom. Here, you can call a different hero to perform an action, during a combo. The character disappears, and you can continue fighting with the existing hero.
Players also have the option to play it as a competitive 2v2 fighter, where you can bring your friends and play together. This has the potential to become a good team-based fight-off title.
Riot has released gameplay footage of 2XKO where you can see four heroes on board. More will be added soon, as we can see the empty slots on the official website.
Traditionally, fighter games have a steep learning curve, as in Tekken or Street Fighter. But the developers behind 2XKO are hoping to implement a control system that rewards both newer and experienced gamers alike. Even if you are playing it for the first time, you will have a good time fighting it out with your friend.
When is Riots’ 2XKO coming out ?
2XKO is slated to release in 2025 on PC, Xbox Series X and PS5. This is the first time a Riot game is arriving on consoles. Valorant and League of Legends are only available on PC, so this is great news for console gamers.
Riot is bringing 2XKO to EVO 2024 in Japan, later this year. Fewer players will be able to test them and leave their thoughts. We will learn more about the characters and the story mode there.
