As far as American sports are concerned, the NFL is surely the grandest stage of all. Rookies come here as promise-filled individuals and leave as legends. Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, and Deion Sanders have all etched their names in the history of the NFL thanks to their remarkable achievements on this legendary platform.
However, every once in a while, a story comes along that tarnishes the reputation of this league. The story of former New England Patriots player Aaron Hernandez is both bizarre and shocking. It is also a testament to the fact that all the earned fame and adulation can turn to dust in the blink of an eye.
Aaron Hernandez scandal: explained
Aaron Hernandez’s dramatic fall from football stardom to a convicted murderer is one of the most infamous cases not only in the NFL but also in the wider world of sports. In 2015, the former New England Patriots tight end was found guilty of the murder of Odin Lloyd, who was a semi-professional football player and the boyfriend of Hernandez’s fiancée’s sister.
Two years later, at the age of 27, Hernandez took his own life by hanging in his prison cell, just days after being acquitted of a separate double homicide. Recently, streaming platform Netflix has released a new documentary series titled “Killer Inside: The Mind of Aaron Hernandez”, which delves into the turbulent life of the late football player.
The series aims to investigate the factors in his life that may have contributed to his violent behavior. It serves as an expansion of director Geno McDermott’s 2018 documentary, “My Perfect World: The Aaron Hernandez Story,” with the goal of revealing the person Hernandez was beyond the sensational headlines that followed his dramatic journey within the NFL.
Tom Brady’s biopic series to include the infamous scandal
From infamy to super-stardom, the NFL has seen it all, and so has Tom Brady. In fact, a new limited series is in the works to cover all his highs and lows with the New England Patriots. Paul Tamasy & Eric Johnson are working on ‘The Patriot Way’, a scripted limited series in development about the legendary quarterback and his ever-dominant New England Patriots team. The pair is adapting Casey Sherman and Dave Wedge’s bestselling 2018 book ’12: The Inside Story of Tom Brady’s Fight for Redemption’.
The series would document his entire journey right from starting out in the NFL to his retirement as one of the legends of the game, addressing all the important milestones along the way, such as the infamous Hernandez scandal, Deflategate, as well as the battle of wills with coach Bill Belichick.
