Roman Reigns is in the midst of a historic reign, accumulating well over 1,000 days as the Undisputed Universal Champion, and there are no signs of this record-breaking reign coming to an end. The Tribal Chief has overcome every opponent in his path, and it appears there’s only one person left: Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.
The Rock’s surprise appearance on SmackDown a few weeks ago has only intensified rumors of a potential showdown between him and his kin for the Undisputed Universal Championship at WrestleMania 40. Let’s explore the possibilities of this match occurring.
Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson vs Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40?
The Rock made a memorable appearance several weeks ago on SmackDown and was involved in a segment with Pat McAfee and Austin Theory which was critically acclaimed by the fans. He also interacted with his old foe John Cena as they shared a wholesome moment backstage. His one-off surprise appearance has increased the chances of a potential match against Roman Reigns at The Grandest Stage of All in the eyes of the Internet Wrestling Community.
It came as a shock when The Rock revealed on the Pat McAfee Show that he was set to face Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39 and the match was locked in but didn’t happen due to unknown reasons. The Brahma Bull has left the door open for a potential bout against The Tribal Chief in the future.
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported that it’s likely that The Rock retires in-ring after being defeated by The Tribal Chief after the match happens. Most likely he’ll be inducted into the Hall of Fame which is a long time coming for the People’s Champion.
Roman Reigns to possibly lose his title to Damian Priest
WWE is taking a deliberate approach to Damien Priest’s Money in the Bank cash-in storyline. It’s been several months since he won the briefcase at a record-breaking Premium Live Event in London. While he’s been associated with The Judgement Day, WWE seems to be trying to make us forget that he’s Mr. Money in the Bank to make his eventual cash-in much more surprising. There was a close call when he nearly cashed in on Seth Rollins, but Drew McIntyre intervened to ensure his match with the World Heavyweight Champion happened at Crown Jewel.
On the latest episode of RAW, Rhea Ripley invited Seth Rollins to join The Judgement Day, with the assurance that Damien Priest wouldn’t be a problem, as he has his sights set on Roman Reigns for the cash-in. Seth Rollins respectfully declined, but now the WWE Universe is speculating about the possibility of Damien Priest cashing in on The Tribal Chief.
There’s a contract signing booked for this Friday’s SmackDown between Roman Reigns and LA Knight as the two megastars come face to face. There’s a chance that Damian Priest could appear on SmackDown and cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase, and go on to win the coveted prize. Although Roman Reigns vs LA Knight is hyped, LA Knight may not get a chance to fight Roman Reigns at Crown Jewel.
Is it time for WWE to pull the trigger and dethrone Roman Reigns with either Damien Priest or LA Knight? Feel free to discuss in the comments
