CM Punk is the hottest commodity in professional wrestling as he was fired from AEW due to his problematic behavior following his short tenure in the company. The announcement of his firing came directly from Tony Khan, who addressed the crowd at AEW Collision one day before All Out, which happened to be in CM Punk’s hometown of Chicago.
Following his release from the contract, there is an expected 2-month no-compete clause, and fans have been speculating about the possibility of the straight-edge superstar making a return to WWE.
When is the next WWE Royal Rumble?
The Royal Rumble, considered one of the four major Premium Live Events and the official beginning of the road to WrestleMania, has provided fans with iconic moments over the years, primarily through its trademark Royal Rumble match, where the winner earns a spot in the main event of WrestleMania.
The next edition of the Royal Rumble will be the 37th rendition of the event, taking place at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida, on January 27, 2024. This event will feature both the Women’s and Men’s Royal Rumble matches.
The Royal Rumble match is renowned for superstars making long-awaited returns or surprising entrants, which have resulted in iconic crowd reactions over the years. WWE recently released the official graphic for the event, which notably lacked the presence of the Undisputed Universal Champion Roman Reigns. However, it’s highly likely that he will still participate in the event.
CM Punk reported having chance of returning to WWE after AEW release
CM Punk recently teased a return to WWE while commentating for CFFC as he’s free for the next 2 months. This sent the rumor mill into overdrive because, after a rumored 2-month no-compete clause following his release, Survivor Series is taking place on November 25th in CM Punk’s hometown of Chicago.
It appears that the stars are aligning, as January 27, 2024, will mark the 10-year anniversary of CM Punk’s departure from WWE, and the Royal Rumble is scheduled for that date as well. Despite all these coincidences, there is a lot of bad blood between both parties.
CM Punk was fired from WWE on the day of his wedding, which many considered petty on the part of the Stamford-based company. Punk also sued WWE for mistreatment of his injury, while AJ Lee was still wrestling in the company, which must have been awkward and a potential reason for AJ Lee’s departure.
However, the Straight Edge Superstar made appearances on WWE Backstage under a deal with Fox, indicating the possibility of both sides resolving their differences and working together in the best interest of business.
While there has been no confirmation of any sort regarding CM Punk’s interest in WWE, or their interest in him being made official, there is definitely a chance of his return, as with most wrestlers with WWE exits over the years, a case of ‘never say never’.
