Roman Reigns has been the face of the company and WWE Undisputed Universal Champion for well over 1,000 days now, in a record-breaking reign that shows no signs of ending. The Tribal Chief has defended his title only once after WrestleMania, against Jey Uso at SummerSlam.
Amidst rumors of a rematch against Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 40, people have been speculating about who could be the next opponent for the Tribal Chief, especially after Jey moved to RAW. The answers are slowly being revealed on a weekly basis on SmackDown.
Roman Reigns to feature in WWE’s Saudi event
In a deal with Saudi Arabia, WWE holds 2 Premium Live Events in Saudi Arabia annually. Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of Wrestling Observers Newsletter that the possible dates of the return of the Tribal Chief are after Fastlane in October after which he return to SmackDown for the build-up of a feud till the eventual Title match at Crown Jewel.
It’s not a surprise since Roman Reigns typically participates in both annual events in Saudi Arabia, given his massive drawing power. WWE also posted a graphic for Royal Rumble 2024 in Tampa, and the Tribal Chief was conspicuously absent, sparking speculation that he might not wrestle in one of WWE’s biggest calendar year events.
While there has been some criticism of Roman Reigns for not defending his title frequently, it has contributed to making his reign feel more prestigious than ever before; it’s no ordinary title run.
Potential opponent for Roman Reigns revealed
There has been some tension between AJ Styles and The Bloodline in recent weeks where AJ has entangled horns with Solo Sikoa and Jimmy Uso. It all started when Jimmy disrespected The OC’s Mia Yim and with The Good Brothers seemingly not wanting to be involved, AJ Styles is all set to go alone against the group which has been dominating SmackDown for years.
AJ lost to Solo Sikoa with interference from Jimmy Uso. However, AJ rebounded by defeating Jimmy the following week on SmackDown. After AJ’s victory over Jimmy, Judgement Day attacked AJ and handed him over to The Bloodline. The future direction of the storyline remains uncertain.
AJ Styles and Roman Reigns had back-to-back instant classics on Payback and Extreme Rules in 2016, which are regarded as one of the best matches of the decade. Hence the prospect of The Phenomenal One and The Tribal Chief colliding promises to be an epic clash.
AJ Styles is a once-in-a-lifetime talent and the WWE Universe has been wanting him to face The Tribal Chief in a rematch that promises to deliver. Do you think WWE is brave enough to pull the trigger and crown AJ Styles as the WWE Undisputed Universal Champion?
