Dana White has become one of the biggest names in combat sports promotion at this point. UFC under his leadership has been putting together one massive fight after the other and in that same spirit, announced a highly anticipated Conor McGregor vs Michael Chandler bout. He is also planning on selecting a spot befitting of such a rivalry.
During an interview, the seasoned veteran had this to say when talking about the venue, “We’re kind of working that out [the venue], but to go to the Dallas, Texas stadium [AT&T Stadium], you have to have the right fight. The Dallas, Texas stadium is a possibility. When you look at a fight of that magnitude, you have to go look at Madison Square Garden.”
He discussed the matter further, “Obviously [Las] Vegas, we could do the stadium there [Allegiant Stadium] or do T-Mobile [Arena],” White continued. “You look at Dallas, Texas stadium – you could also do a massive stadium in London.“
Where should Conor McGregor vs Michael Chandler be held?
While Dana has discussed some great spots for the matchup, there are some obvious candidates who should be avoided at all costs. Firstly the UFC APex comes to mind, as both the Octagon and the space for the audience are smaller. Both these heavy strikers should get more room to move around and the match needs good attendance to make good money.
Secondly, it would not be a great idea to hold the fight overseas as both these fighters may have fans around the globe, and the US audience has the money and the hype to show up in good numbers. Glover Teixeira vs Jiri Prochzka had good attendance despite the fight being held in Singapore with none of the main fighters being native.
