Liverpool have been one of the best sides in the season so far, and have done it silently, without banging the drums. The Reds find themselves at second place in the Premier League points table, only two points behind league leaders Arsenal, after their comfortable 2-0 win over Sheffield United. It is certain that the Merseyside team is definitely in the title contenders’ mix.
However, it is not all jolly in Merseyside as Joel Matip’s injury adds to the list of players sidelined for Liverpool this season. Injuries have had a huge role to play for Liverpool in the recent years, and now with Matip out for a long time, Liverpool would need to get reinforcements in order to be in the title race. Hence, they have their target set on the Bundesliga for a replacement.
Liverpool reportedly targeting Maxence Lacroix to fill Matip’s void
Liverpool are eyeing Wolfsburg defender Maxence Lacroix to provide depth in the defense. According to reports, the French defender, who is also being scouted by Arsenal, will cost the Reds around £30m.
With Joel Matip out for quite a long time, after suffering an ACL injury that will keep him out for the rest of the season, getting Lacroix would make sense for the Reds.
Maxence Lacroix has been rock solid for a struggling Wolfsburg this season, attracting interest from a lot of teams. Coincidentally, the 23-year-old defender is a product of the same academy that produced Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate.
Reports say that manager Jurgen Klopp is an admirer of Lacroix, and he may soon join Konate in the Anfield defense. Liverpool, along with Maxence Lacroix, are also looking at Marc Guehi as a backup signing in case they fail to bag the French international.
Liverpool prevails as Manchester City stumbles to fourth
Liverpool have been pretty good recently and have the Premier League table as witness to their decent run. Following their wins against Fulham and Sheffield United, the Reds have cemented their position in a premature title race, while archrivals Manchester City have been pulled down to fourth, following their loss against Aston Villa.
Manchester City have failed to win in any of their last four Premier League games, leaving them just three points above Manchester United, and five points off Arsenal at the top.
On the contrary, the Reds are enjoying a decent run, and have not lost in the last two months, dropping points against City at the Etihad, ending their home winning streak.
