Jurgen Klopp had a night to forget on Saturday, as Liverpool played out a controversial draw against Arsenal, leaving them a point behind the Gunners. The Reds drew Arsenal 1-1, thanks to Mohammed Salah’s equalizer after Gabriel Magalhaes headed one into Alisson’s net in the just the fourth minute of the game.
However, the game involved a lot of drama, and all at the expense of Liverpool. Adding to the usual VAR drama, the Reds also fell victim to more injuries again, as Konstantinos Tsimikas had to be subbed out due to a serious injury after a touchline clash with Jurgen Klopp. Liverpool would be disappointed after the result, as it was their game to win.
Konstantinos Tsimikas forced off following clash with Klopp
This might come as a surprise to many, but Liverpool’s left Konstantinos Tsimikas had to be taken out as he suffered a serious injury after a touchline coming together with, none other than his own manager, Jurgen Klopp.
In the latter stages of the first half, the Greek left-back clashed with Arsenal forward Bukayo Saka, causing him to tumble towards Klopp, who was standing just in front of him on the touchline. While Klopp went flying, Tsimikas remained on the ground and was carried towards the tunnel by the staff clutching his shoulder.
While talking to the press about the match, Klopp stated, “It was massively overshadowed by Kostas Tsimikas collarbone issue, definitely broken, so he is out for a long time. The other issues we will have to see. It is hard for us to swallow with the Robbo (Andy Robertson) situation.”
According to Klopp, Tsimikas has suffered a suspected broken collarbone injury, and might be out for a lengthy period recovering. With Andy Robertson and Joel Matip also out injured for long periods, Liverpool are short of defenders and might have to look into the transfer market to get reinforcements.
Jurgen Klopp voices displeasure after handball controversy
The problems seem to be sticking to Liverpool this season, as another refereeing controversy occurred during the game in Anfield. Liverpool, who already suffered from the infamous VAR drama against Tottenham, had a penalty denied despite the ball being clearly handled by Martin Odegaard in the first half.
This left Jurgen Klopp fuming, as Arsenal got away with a decision gain. The Liverpool boss, in the press conference, said, “I am pretty sure someone will come to explain it to me why it was not a handball but I don’t know how?”
Klopp further added, “how can a guy in an office see that and not come to the conclusion that maybe, it could be worth the referee having another look?”, as he was disappointed that VAR did not refer it to the on-field referee.
Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp next travel to Burnley, as the title race heats up leaving three teams within touching distance of one another.
