Every year, the Money in the Bank show features a traditional match which is known as the Money in the Bank ladder match. This match usually takes between 6 or 8 competitors with an opportunity to earn a contract through which they will get a title opportunity at any time, any place, and for any championship. Both Men & Women MITB ladder matches are set to take place at this year’s Money in the Bank premium live event.
In the history of the company, many superstars have won the MITB briefcase. Unfortunately, they’re also quite a few superstars who failed to cash in their briefcases in WWE.
Listing the failed efforts despite cashing in
As mentioned earlier, there are few superstars in the company who aren’t that lucky enough to win any championship despite winning the MITB ladder match.
However, this unfortunate list also includes legendary names like John Cena. In 2012, Cena cashed in his MITB briefcase on RAW 1000 against the champion Cm Punk. Despite winning the match Cena was able to win the title because he won the match via disqualification which resulted in the victory of Cena but in becoming the champion.
The list later on continued with the name of Damien Sandow who also had a failed effort in becoming a world champion despite winning the contract ladder match. He cashed in against John Cena but got defeated by him via his finisher Attitude adjustment.
The next superstar is The Lone Wolf Baron Corbin who wins the MITB Contract Ladder match after his massive main roster debut. But unfortunately, he also lost his title match against Jinder Mahal, thanks to the interference of U can’t see me.
The latest superstar who added to this list is the current United State Champion Austin Theory. Theory also won the MITB ladder match last year after getting his surprise addition however after teasing his cash in on Roman Reigns, Theory cashed in on Seth Rollins for his Us title. However he failed to win the same because of the attack of a ruthless Bobby Lashley during the match,
Who won the first-ever MITB ladder match?
The first Money in the Bank ladder match was won by nonother than the Rated R Superstar Edge. The inaugural MITB ladder match first takes place at Wrestlemania 21 where he defeated stars like Kane, Christian, etc.
After the massive success of the ladder match, WWE created its own premium live event known as the Money in the Bank show. This year MITB is taking place on Sunday, 2 July 2023 in London, England.
