The name Bernd Reichart has suddenly been buzzing in the European football circuit, that too, after two years. Another phenomenon – that had been silent in the previous two years, and is suddenly buzzing like Bernd Reichart – the European Super League is well and truly related to the person named.
Bernd Reichart is not some teenage football talent, or some mastermind manager in some corner of Europe, but the main brains behind the relaunch of the Super League idea. With the Super League verdict out, and with the help of Real Madrid and Barcelona, the new Super League idea has been revamped and put forward by Reichart.
Who is Bernd Reichart?
Bernd Reichart is a German businessman who is currently the CEO of A22 Sports Management, the company working behind promoting the European Super League. Working mostly in Broadcasting and TV through his career, Reichart is someone who knows about “viewership” more than many in that field.
Prior to 2021, Reichart was best recognised for his expertise as a broadcast and media executive. He led some of the biggest media corporations in Europe, including RTL Deutschland, before moving away to take up the role he now holds at A22 Sports Management, which was set up to sponsor and provide assistance in the establishment of the European Super League.
As stated by A22, Bernd Reichart’s responsibility was to “start an active and extended dialogue with a comprehensive group of football stakeholders, including clubs, players, coaches, fans, media, and policy makers.”
Reichart proposes free viewing of all Super League matches
With the verdict of the European Court of Justice coming that UEFA and FIFA were indeed violating the competition law, the idea of superior competition in the Super League is very much alive and awake.
The historic ruling concluded that FIFA and UEFA were indeed “abusing a dominant position” but also clarified that it does not imply the Super League idea had to be accepted. However, A22 Sports Management has hailed the announcement as a major step forward as they move ahead with their plans of starting the Super League.
A22 CEO Bernd Reichart has come out to promise free viewership of the getaway league and has stated the league to be the new revolution in European Football.
A22, via X, posted, “We have won the #RightToCompete. The UEFA-monopoly is over. Football is FREE.” They further added, “Clubs are now free from the threat of sanction AND free to determine their own futures. For fans: We propose free viewing of all Super League matches. For clubs: Revenues and solidarity spending will be guaranteed”.
With the judgment coming out in favor of the Super League, Bernd Reichart and his team are well prepared with the idea of a competition with 60 to 80 odd teams. This might turn out to be the goodbye to UEFA competitions.
