The boxing world is at a state of shock because of the unfortunate death of boxing legend Besar Nimani. The 38-year-old former light middleweight who has been living in Germany since 1997, was shot dead. As per available reports, the incident took place outside a cafe in Bielefeld, Germany’s North Rhine-Westphalia.
Eyewitnesses believe that they had heard around 10 gunshots. The Investigation into the crime scene as well as a manhunt for the vigilantes has been initiated by the Law Enforcement. TMZ has also shared the news through its twitter handle. The post read, ”Besar Nimani, a former boxing champion with just one loss on his career, was shot and killed outside a restaurant in Germany Saturday night.”
Besar Nimani: Who is he?
Besar Nimani came to Germany in 1997 as an Albanian refugee and has lived in Bielefeld ever since. Besar Nimani began his boxing career in Bielefeld in 1998 at SV Brackwede. Boxing helped the young migrant quickly find a connection in his new home.
The Kosovar-German boxer turned professional in 2011. Besar Nimani has an impressive boxing record standing at 27 wins with only 1 loss, with 22 victories scored through knockouts. He had an overall knockout-to-win rate at 85%. On November 18, 2012, Nimani qualified for the IBF European Light Middleweight Championship after successfully fighting four fights in just under seven months.
His won his first international title by defeating Sandor Micsko by a Seventh Round Knockout. On May 31, 2014, Nimani achieved his greatest success and became the new IBF International Title Holder when he brought Mike Miranda to his knees in the first round. Nimani lost a fight against the Frenchman Frank Horche Horta by technical knockout in round 4 on April 11, 2015. This fight was followed by longer breaks due to injuries. He went on to take a year long break before his next fight. He fought his last fight on December 14, 2019, in against Adnan Zilic.
Besar Nimani was shot and killed in Germany
According to the media outlet Bild, Besar was last seen exiting a cafe in Bielefeld on Saturday evening, before being shot 10 times, which led to his death. The Bielefeld police released a statement reading: ‘One or more perpetrators approached and shot the victim. The man from Bielefeld, who was a Kosovar citizen, died at the scene due to the great wounds he received.’
Besar Nimani had previously been the victim of a shooting incident in Germany that left five people injured. In August 2013, Nimani with his brother Berat, and a friend, got into a disagreement in a Turkish restaurant near Bielefeld station. It was said that Berat hit someone on the head with a cola bottle but a pistol was drawn and fired.
