A few days back fans were shocked that the Dallas Cowboys would have only one kicker, Tristan Vizcaino, on their roster. One kicker means there is pretty much zero competition, but that calculation was altered on Thursday after Todd Archer of ESPN reported that Dallas had signed Brandon Aubrey, who had most recently played in the USFL.
He was a particularly effective kicker for the Birmingham Stallions during the most recent USFL season. Hopefully, Aubrey will fulfill the expectations and lead his team to success.
Who is Brandon Aubrey?
Kicker Aubrey, 28, recently signed with the Cowboys. In his two seasons of professional football, he played for the USFL both times.
Surprisingly, he did not participate in football during his time at college. He went to Notre Dame, where he excelled as a defender and scored 15 goals in 76 games for the squad.
Following his successful college soccer career, Aubrey was chosen as a first-round pick in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft by Toronto FC, the 21st overall selection. He spent two seasons in the MLS development program but did not achieve the desired success. However, his exceptional leg strength caught the attention of the USFL in 2022.
In the USFL draft, he was selected by the Birmingham Stallions. Throughout the 2023 USFL season, he showcased his talent as one of the league’s best kickers, combining impressive leg strength with accuracy.
