Recently, the NBA has been subject to a handful of controversies surrounding their players including Josh Giddey’s ongoing legal investigation. Adding to the list, Chance Comanche, a 27-year-old former player for the Sacramento Kings’ G League affiliate Stockton Kings, finds himself at the center of a mysterious and sinister crime.
FBI agents in California picked Comanche up on Friday, and he has now been charged with first-degree kidnapping for the disappearance of a 23-year old woman, Marayna Rodgers, from Las Vegas.
Who is Chance Comanche?
Chance Comanche is a 27-year-old basketball player who was playing for the Stockton Kings, the G-League affiliate of the Sacramento Kings. Whilst his college days, he balled for the Arizona Wildcats.
However, despite his collegiate experience, he faced the disappointment of going undrafted by the NBA in 2017. He eventually inked a deal with the Memphis Hustle and later took to the court for the Cleveland Charge in the 2018-19 season.
In the 2022-23 season, he signed a 10-day contract with the Portland Trail Blazers in April, as indicated by the NBA transactions list. Before joining the Blazers, he participated in 32 games with the Stockton Kings. Intriguingly, fate beckoned him back to the Stockton Kings for the 2023-24 season.
However, the tale took a dark twist on the very day Comanche became entangled in the web of a criminal investigation. The Stockton Kings, swift in their response to the unfolding events, announced Comanche’s release, casting a shadow over the player’s fate in the basketball circuit.
Details on Chance Comanche’s arrest
Arrested by FBI agents in California on Friday, Comanche is now facing first-degree kidnapping charges in connection with the disappearance of Marayna Rodgers in Las Vegas.
Rodgers, hailing from Washington, vanished while visiting friends in Las Vegas and was officially reported missing on December 6.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department disclosed that 19-year-old Sakari Harnden, identified as a friend of Rodgers, was also taken into custody in Clark County, Nevada on a kidnapping charge related to the case.
The enigma deepens as reports suggest that the case has taken a dark turn, evolving into an open murder investigation involving Comanche and his girlfriend, Sakari Harnden.
