Earl Thomas, a former NFL player renowned for his illustrious career with the Seattle Seahawks, has not only achieved success on the football field but has also made headlines for his tumultuous marriage. Although he is divorced, there have been ongoing issues with his ex-wife. Last year, the couple even raised weapons at each other.
In a recent development, disturbing reports have surfaced, revealing that Thomas has fallen victim to a significant scam orchestrated by an individual connected to his ex-wife. Although scams associated with relationships is nothing new in the NFL, this news was shocking considering the couple has been separated for a long time now.
Who is Earl Thomas?
Earl Thomas is a former NFL safety who played for 10 years in the league. He played nine seasons with the Seattle Seahawks and was a crucial member of the team’s famous “Legion of Boom” defense.
He also got three All-Pro selections and has one Super Bowl victory under his belt which he secured with the Seahawks in 2013.
In 2019, the former safety was traded to the Baltimore Ravens but was cut by the team in 2020. During his 10-year career, the former safety had 30 interceptions, two touchdowns, 12 forced fumbles, and 713 total tackles.
Besides his professional life, Earl Thomas often made headlines for his personal life. After he had a violent altercation with his wife Nina in 2022, Thomas got a restraining order to stay away from his wife. But now he has been scammed by his ex-wife’s boyfriend.
Earl Thomas gets scammed $1.9 million by ex-wife’s boyfriend
Earl Thomas’ ex-wife’s boyfriend, Kevin J. Thompson, is accused of scamming $1.9 million by the former safety. He was arrested by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office in June for multiple charges, including identity theft, bank fraud, computer fraud, money laundering, and more.
He has scammed the former NFL player in various ways. Thompson allegedly used a phony driver’s license with his photo and Earl Thomas’ information to create a fake bank account and transfer ownership of several vehicles.
He even cashed some of Earl Thomas’ final NFL checks, effectively draining funds from Thomas’ bank account.
Thompson is also accused of selling Thomas’ vehicles and keeping the proceeds. It remains unclear how he physically gained possession of these vehicles.
“[Thompson] used a driver’s license with his photo but the NFL player’s information to create a phony bank account and transfer vehicle titles, authorities said, including the blue Rolls-Royce Cullinan SUV he drove to the bank where he was arrested,” Nola.com reported.
Despite all these allegations, Kevin J. Thompson is currently free on a $730,000 bond. No one has commented on this matter yet. The attorney for Kevin J. Thompson also declined to make any comments and Earl Thomas is also silent.
There are also rumors that Thomas’ ex-wife Nina must have been involved in this scam and helped his boyfriend. But there is no evidence about it yet. As the case is still under investigation, stay tuned for more updates.
