Who is Papu Gomez reportedly getting stripped of his World Cup medal with Argentina after an alleged doping test controversy?

In order to win, you need to work hard and be the best. Unfortunately, there are some people out there who like to take shortcuts on their road to glory. Paul Pogba was charged with doping recently, and now Argentine international Alejandro Papu Gomez has also been added to the list. The forward is reported to have failed his doping test, which caused some severe consequences.

Gomez has now become a headline all across the media, and these new revelations can also potentially rip him off of his 2022 Qatar World Cup medal.

Who is Papu Gomez?

Born on February 15, 1988, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Alejandro Papu Gomez, commonly known as Papu Gomez, is a football player currently associated with the Italian club Monza and also the Argentina national football team. The 35-year-old started his career back in 2003 when he joined Arsenal De Sarandi’s youth team. He made his debut for the first team in 2006. From there, he went on to join several clubs, such as Catania, Atlanta, and Sevilla.

Apart from winning the 2022 Qatar World Cup, Papu Gomez also lifted the UEFA Europa League trophy last season with his former club Sevilla. His international victories include the 2021 Copa America trophy and the 2007 FIFA Under-20 World Cup. Gomez is without a doubt a great player; he received the Serie A Player of the Month award in June and September of 2020. He was also crowned the best Serie A midfielder in the 2019–20 season.

Is Papu Gomez charged with doping allegations?

Unfortunately, Papu Gomez has now been reported to have used an illegal substance in the days before the forward left for the 2022 World Cup. This new revelation has now put his credibility in jeopardy.

The AC Monza player has received a two-year ban, which will prevent him from participating in any of the tournaments until October 2025. He might also be ripped off of his World Cup trophy and his 2022–23 Europa League title.

His current club, AC Monza, also released a statement regarding this issue, saying: “AC Monza announces that today, October 20, 2023, FIFA has notified the Spanish Anti-Doping Commission of the first instance ruling of the Spanish Anti-Doping Commission against the player Alejandro Dario Gomez.”

Papu Gomez joined AC Monza a few weeks ago after his contract with his former club, Sevilla, expired prematurely. This news has now put the Argentine’s career in danger. The player has not yet scored for his new club, and it looks like he won’t get to either.
