FC Barcelona, the Spanish giants, are renowned for their rich sporting legacy and global popularity for producing homegrown elite talents through La Masia and other youth setups. Notable names like Lionel Messi, Xavi Hernandez, Andres Iniesta, and Sergio Busquets have emerged from their youth system.

The Catalans have produced some of the brightest players recently, such as Lamine Yamal, Gavi, and Balde, who have already made a mark in the current Barca team. A new 17-year-old talent named Marc Guiu has also announced his arrival on Sunday with his scintillating display for the Catalans.

Who is the 17-year-old debutant Marc Guiu?

Marc Guiu, born in 2006 in Granollers, Catalonia, is a La Masia graduate. He has been part of youth teams that featured in the UEFA Youth League for Barcelona. Within a brief span of two years, he made his way to the first-team action as a forward.

The teenager has earned 12 national team caps for Spain since making his debut earlier in January this year at just 17 years and 21 days old. Playing for Spain-U17, he showcased his brilliance as a striker at the Euro-U17 in Hungary, scoring 4 goals in 5 matches and ending up as the joint-top scorer of the tournament.

Guiu is a traditional number 9, standing at 6’2″ tall, and is an out-and-out striker. He was given his first-team debut by Xavi Hernandez in the absence of their prolific goal scorer, Robert Lewandowski, who is sidelined due to injury along with Pedri, Frenkie de Jong, Kounde, and Raphinha.

FC Barcelona hosted Athletic Club Bilbao, resuming their La Liga campaign after the international break. The match appeared to be settled with a goalless draw, as both teams were not clinical in taking their chances.

However, within just 30 seconds of his debut as a substitute, the 17-year-old striker Marc Guiu seized the occasion. With his first touch of the game in the 80th minute, he netted the sole winning goal for Barcelona.

Xavi handed the teenager his first-ever start for Barcelona’s main team, and the young player displayed sheer composure while sliding past the keeper to secure a 1-0 win at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys.

Barcelona are set to face Shakhtar Donetsk in the UEFA Champions League clash before the highly anticipated fixture of the “El Clasico” against Real Madrid in La Liga.
