Cody Rhodes is one of the biggest babyface superstars in the WWE. Every week on Monday-Night RAW, Cody goes head-to-head with the World Heavyweight Champion, Seth “Freakin” Rollins, to witness who is the actual babyface of the red brand.
Cody could also have been the champion following Wrestlemania 39 had he won the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. Following his devastating loss at the Showcase of the Immortals, what led to Rhodes going away from social media?
WWE management counsels Cody to avoid online reactions
Rhodes wanted to win the title at Wrestlemania to fulfill his father’s dream. All the fans were behind him and supported him to finally put an end to the reign of terror. After Wrestlemania 39 concluded, many fans went home heartbroken, as they wished to see the American Nightmare finally bring the World Title to RAW. Considering he failed to do so, this was surely a bitter pill for Cody to swallow.
The majority of the WWE universe wished to see Rhodes open RAW after Mania as the new Undisputed WWE Universal Champion, but unfortunately, this was not the case. The American Nightmare truly suffered a nightmare. The worst thing happened when Rhodes was attacked by Brock Lesnar out of nowhere to start off a fresh feud to rebuild his momentum. This segment generated a lot of criticism from fans and observers.
Who beat Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 39?
The main event of Wrestlemania 39 was American Nightmare, Cody Rhodes vs Tribal Chief, Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. Crowds were prepared to witness Roman finally dropping the title after keeping it hostage for nearly 1000 days, but the Head of the Table turned the table as the Enforcer, Solo Sikoa, came to save the title for Roman, turning Cody’s dream into a nightmare.
The result gained mixed reactions from fans, with the majority disliking the result. Fans were hoping to see the crowning moment of the Prodigal Son at the event, but WWE decided to upset the fans as they did at the last two Wrestlemanias. It was rumored that Roman would fight The Rock at Wrestlemania this year, but Rock was not available.
With Rock still rumored to fight Roman at Wrestlemania next year, it is speculated that WWE has locked in the rematch between Reigns and Rhodes as the potential main event for the upcoming 40th show. It will be interesting to see whether WWE will give what the fans want or whether Cody will fail again and lose all of the momentum that he will gain again.
