After Germany was bashed 4-1 against Japan, the team hit a new low that was unimaginable for the fans. For the longest time, Germany was considered the best team in Europe. However, after recent performances, that title no longer belongs to them. Fans have also grown impatient seeing their once glorious team fall so low.
One man in particular got his fair share of blame, and that is German head coach Hansi Flick. As of now, he is the former head coach, as he has been fired following the disastrous result against Japan.
Flick’s performance in the Germany hot seat
Hansi Flick was thought to be the man to alleviate the sickness within the team after Joachim Low left in 2021. After all, he had just taken Bayern Munich to win a historic sextuple, and as such expectations were high.
Flick however failed, as he did not manage to imbue his team with any energetic performances. Furthermore, the team had a shaky defense under him and also failed to score frequently.

Germany lost out in the group stage of the 2022 World Cup, which was an embarrassment for the four-time World Champions. Already fans were frustrated that the manager could not get the best out of the talented German players.
After losing three games in a row, the DFB finally decided to sack him. He also couldn’t get a single win in the last five games, losing four of them.
Hansi Flick leaves as the second-worst manager in the history of the German national team. He only averaged 1.72 points per game, a little better than Erich Ribbeck with 1.5 points. In the 25 games he has managed, he has only won 12 games, drawn 7 games, and lost 6 games. In total, he has a win percentage of 48%, which is one of the worst in their history.
Potential candidates to succeed Flick
The German national team will now be looking for a new manager, one that can successfully revitalize the team. Already there are a number of suitable candidates available to replace Hansi Flick.
The favorite to replace Flick is Jurgen Klopp, manager of Liverpool. However, he has a contract until 2026, but there is still a way to bypass that. According to the Mirror, when Klopp signed the new contract, he put in a clause that could allow him to leave for the Germany national team job. There is also the idea that Klopp could manage both teams until 2024, as Germany wants to go to the Euro 2024 as a strong candidate. It remains to be seen what Klopp says, though he has already said he is committed to Liverpool.
Another option is Julian Nagelsmann, who ironically replaced Hansi Flick when he left Bayern Munich. However, he was also fired due to performance and dressing room issues. Nagelsmaan was highly wanted by many clubs but is still without a club. The German national team may be the perfect destination, but Nagelsmann while a great manager, still lacks a lot of experience.
Zinedine Zidane is one of the potential candidates to replace Hansi Flick as German national team coach.

A surprising addition to the list is Zinedine Zidane, as revealed by BILD. The legendary Frenchman has already become a great manager, lifting three UCLs in a row for Real Madrid. However, he left in 2021 and is reportedly waiting for the French national team job. That could be a bit hard at the moment, since current manager Didier Deschamps is doing quite well, reaching two consecutive World Cup finals.
Nevertheless, Zidane is considered a top manager that any team wants to have. The Frenchman may finally decide to join the Germans, though no information indicating that has come out.
The process will be long and we may not get a name in the next few days. But whoever takes the job will have high expectations of him with the Euro 2024 coming.
