Why Browns part ways with Perrion Winfrey? Investigating the assault charges against the NFL DT

Perrion Winfrey, a defensive tackle for the Cleveland Browns, is currently the subject of an inquiry after a lady accused him of threatening her. Winfrey has run into one problem after the other ever since he was drafted, so this is not his first run-in. Cleveland police are looking into the allegations surrounding the incident.

The incident occurred at a hotel lobby where two women called out the Browns’ lineman. On being ignored the women proceeded to insult him which made Winfrey furious. He followed the women and is said to have threatened and physically assaulted one of them. The incident is said to be recorded in the mobile phone of the victim.

Perrion Winfrey released by Browns amid assault charges

The defensive tackle has not been charged or arrested yet. But Cleveland wasted no time in cutting their ties with him. According to the reports the Browns Franchise took the decision to release him as soon as the news of the investigation started buzzing.

It Is no surprise that the Browns are taking precautions because the pro athlete has been a troublemaker from the start. He was arrested not long ago this year on charges of assault on his partner.

But the charges were later dropped as he agreed to do a pre-trial program. The news of the Browns severing ties with the player comes just a few days prior to the commencement of the Browns’ training camp in Greenbrier at White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.

Winfrey allegedly flashed a gun at the victim

The police while investigating the victims noticed a red mark on the left side of the neck of one of the women which was probably made by hitting or grabbing the women. The victim also reported to the police that Winfrey while threatening and following them pulled up his shirt revealing a hand gum tucked to his waist.

The police were later able to retrieve the mobile phone from the scene and were able to see the recording made by the victim. The police reported that the recording was substantial and they were able to hear the threats made by the defensive tackle clearly in the audio. However, the police were not able to see any gun in the video footage.

After releasing Perrion the Browns are likely going to look weak defensively. It will be interesting to watch whether the Browns sign any new player to fill in the spot of Winfrey or not.
