Why did Chris Jones refuse to play? Andy Reid addresses Chiefs’ problems after Travis Kelce weigh in

Reigning Super Bowl winners, The Kansas City Chiefs have been going through a tough situation as their top DT Chris Jones is reluctant to attend training camps, which may result in significant fines for the player himself. However, the DT’s stance in fulfilling his demands with an unusual strategy is somewhat causing concern throughout the franchise.

Chris remains absent from the field due to the unresolved contract dispute and has issued a stern warning to his NFL team. It’s clear that Chris is determined in his stance and expects the Kansas City Chiefs to address his contract concerns promptly.

Why does Chris Jones refuse to play? Explained

Jones refuses to play for his team, a protest by the defensive tacker that has been ongoing for the last few weeks and will continue to do so. The 29-year-old defensive tackle made it explicitly very clear that he shall not return to the training camp until week 8 of the season. The NFL superstar is exerting pressure on the team for contract negotiations to meet his desires as soon as possible.

The Kansas City Chiefs’ player is still on board with his last contract which is valued at $20 million. Although, the franchise looks forward to involving Jones in the upcoming matches they struggle to renew the contract with him.

As reported by theathletic, Jones wants his contract to be increased to $30 million, aiming to become “the highest-paid player in his position.” The demand seems fair enough, considering the significant effort he puts into his work on the field. The story doesn’t stop here as the man has reportedly refused to return to his task and is being fined $50,000 every day he doesn’t return to the field.

Andy Reid addresses Chiefs’ Jones situation

Despite Chris Jones’ initial reluctance to return to the field for the defending Super Bowl winners owing to contract obstacles, Head Coach Andy Reid was ultimately successful in convincing him to play again for the team after Travis Kelce begged him to do so. “You scared me, man.” In his recent podcast, Travis appears to be upset and is practically sending an SOS message to Chris, asking him to return.

After such a message and cry for help, Reid stepped in to defend Jones and explain his contract situation much more simply: “I’m just working with the guys we have and making sure we’re set there.”

Although the former Philadelphia Eagles coach is somewhat unaware of the uncertain future his team player has created, it can be inferred that the Chiefs’ head coach is doing his utmost best to ensure the player is ready to return to the field.
