Joao Palhinha was set to make a move from his club Fulham to the German giants Bayern Munich. The player was all set to change his club and be a part of Bayern’s new roster this season but unfortunately, the deal is now off the table. Bayern was in desperate need of a midfielder and Joao Palhinha could have been the man they were looking for. The Portugal international will stay at Fulham and continue his career with the club.
Since Bayern’s midfielder Ryan Gravenberch will also be leaving this season it would have been beneficial for Bayern to sign Palhinha. However what came to pass that the transfer had to be held off at the very last moment?
Why did Joao Palhinha’s move to Bayern Munich collapse on deadline day?
Joao Palhinha was set to join Bayern and Fulham agreed to a deal with the Bundesliga champions. The whole transfer was dependent on Fulham finding a midfielder before the closing of the transfer market. The club failed to find a replacement for Joao and thus the whole deal collapsed right before the closing of Bundesliga’s transfer window.
With the two clubs agreeing on a deal of €65 million, Fulham had their eyes on Spurs midfielder Pierre Emile but failed to bring him to the club. The Bundesliga transfer window closes six hours before it closes in England, this also made things difficult for the club to find a replacement for the player.
Joao Palhinha reportedly completed his medical and photoshoot before the deal collapsed
According to reports Joao Palhinha flew to Germany for his medical tests with Fulham’s permission on Friday. A Twitter post from B/R Football claims that he even did a photoshoot in Bayern’s kit. The caption says “João Palhinha took his medical and did a photo shoot in a Bayern Munich kit only for the deal to collapse at the last second, per @FabrizioRomano He’s going back to Fulham”
Other clubs such as Manchester United and Chelsea were also interested but Palhinha had his eyes set on Bayern. The German club did make him an offer a week before this one but it was rejected by the player. Bayern did come up with a better offer and it looked like the deal could happen but things fell apart at the very last moment. Palhinha is disappointed as he was excited to make a move to Germany but it looks like the player will stay in England a little while longer.
