During their ongoing legal battle, boxing legend Manny Pacquiao received a sharp callout from Conor McGregor recently. The Irishman captivated the audience at the ‘The Day of Reckoning’ boxing event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder, two heavyweight boxing sensations, co-starred in the main event.
When asked about his next fight in a recent interview with iFL TV, McGregor immediately called out boxing legend Manny Pacquiao. McGregor challenged Pacquiao to increase his weight in preparation for a fight in Saudi Arabia.
Why does Pacquiao owe Conor McGregor $8million?
Conor McGregor claimed in a recent court battle that Manny Pacquiao owed him $8 million, referencing a two-fight deal that fell through, involving their promotions. After the failed deal earlier this year, the disagreement adds another layer of tension to their professional relationship.
During the Tyson Fury vs. Francis Ngannou boxing match in Riyadh, McGregor expressed his annoyance over a $8 million settlement dispute, intensifying the long-running rivalry between the two sports legends.
Conor said, “How about me vs. Manny here in Saudi? How does that sound to you? Wouldn’t you think Manny should have to come up in weight, considering it’s his sport? Would you think that’s what a man would do vs. what a mouse would do? Manny already owes me $8 million via the court of law. He was signed to my management company and didn’t honor his deal. So fight at my weight and I’ll square that bill away.”
Their past includes a 2021 boxing match that was called off because of tense feelings with McGregor’s management company, Paradigm Sports, which went on to defeat Pacquiao in court. Paradigm Sports sued Pacquiao for allegedly failing to disclose an existing management agreement when he signed a contract with them. The lawsuit sought damages exceeding $20 million.
After the trial, the jury found in favor of Paradigm Sports and gave them a reported $5.1 million damages award. The decision emphasizes the need for clear contractual disclosures and establishes a legal standard for cases involving hidden pre-existing agreements in the sports management sector.
McGregor calls out PacMan
During the thrilling ‘Day of Reckoning’ boxing match in Saudi Arabia, Mystic Mac took center stage and made a daring statement directed at Pacquiao. During their ongoing legal battle, McGregor boldly challenged Pacquiao to increase his weight for a major boxing superfight in Saudi Arabia, while being interviewed by Derek Chisora during Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder’s co-main event.
Manny Pacquiao is skeptical of McGregor’s eagerness to compete against him in boxing. In a 2016 press conference, eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao voiced his doubts about McGregor’s prospects despite the MMA fighter’s excitement.
Pacquiao publicly stated that he was willing to take on “The Notorious” in a boxing match, implying that he would have the upper hand in a ring duel. Fans and commentators are curious about the possible outcome of such a high-profile fight.
