Why is Jake Paul’s premier boxing event under investigation? Everything you need to know

When Jake Paul fought boxer Andre August in Orlando last Friday night, it was a rare occurrence, as the YouTuber-turned-boxer usually fights people who are well-known from the entertainment, mixed martial arts, or other sports industries.

With a devastating uppercut in the opening round, Paul delivered the performance which surprised the fans as he managed to knock out the professional boxer. Although the fight went almost unnoticed, it is now creating a buzz, as the boxing event is now under scrutiny for illicit activities.

Jake Paul boxing event match card details and results

As a professional boxer, August had a record of 10-1-1 going into the match, although just one of those bouts had taken place in the previous four years. On paper, he wasn’t a particularly interesting opponent, but then again, he wasn’t an exceptionally tough opponent for a fighter in their ninth professional fight, like Paul was.

The Problem Child started using his jab right away, setting himself up for overhand rights and body blows. His straight left followed by a right uppercut that clipped August’s chin and sent him tumbling to the canvas proved that the jab set-up was well-timed. When August stood after the referee had waved off the bout, he staggered hard against the ropes because he could not beat the official’s count.

In his post-match press conference, Jake stated that he did what he said, and this fight’s result was manifested by him earlier. “I said first-round knockout all week,” Jake Paul said after the fight. “I manifested this. This is the power of manifestation. I said I needed to bring back the old ‘Problem Child,'”

Why is Jake Paul’s boxing event under investigation?

According to The Sports Daily’s Garett Kerman, U.S. Integrity is investigating a separate fight on the Paul vs. August card. Claims suggest there was suspicious betting activity on the Yoenis Tellez vs. Livan Navarro bout, which took place before the co-main event of Shadasia Green vs. Francon Crews-Dezurn.

On the undercard, there was a fight in the super welterweight division between the undefeated Yoenis Tellez (7-0) and Livan Navarro (15-2). These two went toe-to-toe early on, and in the third round, Tellez landed a thunderous right hand that sent Navarro to the canvas.

This fight is still under investigation and it remains to be seen if there will be any repercussions if there is a violation.
