“Winning via injury is poor”: validating the statement for Fiziev vs. Gamrot bout at UFC Vegas 79

The worst that could happen did happen at UFC Vegas 279 as the night’s main event ended up being called off due to an unprecedented injury. Despite being a proper scrap with both Fiziev and Gamrot giving it their all, it did not quite reach its expected denouement.

The two lightweights fought to the core making it look like a dog fight exchanging punch for punch, but as the fight proceeded to the second-round injury struck Fiziev and the fight had to be called off.

Fan claims “winning via injury is poor”

UFC 276 saw Rafael Fiziev and Mateusz Gamrot level up in the main event of the night. The fight was proceeded with rising excitement, with both fighters shaping up well in the first round giving it their best to break into the top 5 in the lightweight division.

The second round started off with the same momentum which was soon killed off as Fiziev injured himself off a kick block which caused the fight to come to an abrupt end.

The fans felt for Fiziev as the fight was a close one and the fighter was giving it his all, but they were enraged later when they saw Gamrot celebrate the win.

One fan on X, formerly Twitter, wrote, “Why is this bum celebrating like he did something”

Another wrote, “Why Gamrot celebrate like he won?”

“Why the hell did gamrot celebrate? You didn’t stop him he broke his foot you jackass”, quoted another user.

It really was very un-sportsman-like from Gamrot to have celebrated that way after seeing a fellow fighter on the canvas. The fans did feel bad for him and Gamrot received lot of backlashes for his lack of sportsmanship.

Exploring reasons why people think Gamrot shouldn’t have celebrated that win

The general consensus of the audience was that the win shouldn’t have been celebrated as the fight was not one sided at any point, both the fighters were evenly matched.

The opening round of the Fiziev vs Gamrot bout was really neck to neck and thus it was not the apt reaction from Gamrot, giving the audience a genuine reason to feel enraged.

The crowd expected Gamrot to act better as he has been the face of a lot of UFC fight nights like the Gamrot vs Tsarukyan in Vegas 57 . It is never a good look when the fight ends this way, yet fighters should always be prepared for the worst-case scenario. It was perhaps an impulsive reaction from a seasoned fighter like Mateusz Gamrot to have acted such insensitively, hence enraging the fans.
