AEW and WWE have been rivals for a long time, with Tony Khan’s company once giving WWE tough competition. But those days are gone. Since the middle of last year, AEW has visibly lost its edge. WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff has shared a harsh opinion about its current state, repeating similar criticism as before.
Recently, Bryan Danielson’s career-ending show and Jon Moxley’s top form raised some hope for the company. But WWE’s events continue to draw huge numbers.
Jacksonville-based promotion still can’t match the excitement and entertainment that WWE provides. Right now, AEW’s Dynamite is struggling to reach the level of WWE’s NXT events. WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff didn’t hold back his thoughts.

AEW’s long-time critic shared, “They’re horrible. I’ve given up. You know what? I used to get really frustrated with them because I actually hate seeing people screw up good opportunities… There’s no hope for them. Nothing’s going to turn their company around. There’s no light bulb gonna go off on anybody’s head and realize.”
Eric Bischoff also criticizes AEW’s storytelling and audience appeal
Eric Bischoff also heavily criticized Tony Khan’s promotion for its lack of coherent storytelling and broad appeal. Bischoff stated, “There is nobody there who knows what a story actually is,” and mocked the idea that AEW’s numerous storylines are hard to follow.

They just can’t keep #AEW out their mouths🥱
According to Biscoff, Tony Khan doesn’t care about stories, development or characters 😴 pic.twitter.com/lP4jflV8t9
Bischoff also criticized AEW’s focus on high-risk action over character development, saying, “If you just like the physical presentation of guys flying all over the place and doing all kinds of athletically amazing stuff and you don’t care about the story. AEW is your jam.” He argued this approach isn’t viable for the masses.
