Kurt Angle, a former professional wrestler and Olympic gold medalist. He recently shared his thoughts on the state of WWE’s current roster and the need for the company to create the next big star after Roman Reigns.
“I’m not gonna beat up on Roman Reigns because he is the man, deserves to be,” Angle said on the latest “Kurt Angle Show” episode. “But we’re in a time now where if you’re champion for three years. It’s a little long.”
Angle explained, “So fans had to come see you at the arenas. And you would only be at that city one day a week. So they only saw wrestling one day a week back then when they were champion for six, eight years. Now Roman Reigns is going on and it looks like he’s gonna hold the title for another few years. The thing is, he’s on TV every week, sometimes twice a week, and he’s on PPV every month. It’s just a lot.”
Kurt Angle says fans will lose interest in WWE, as Roman has been champ for too long!:

While Angle acknowledged that Roman, the current Universal Champion, deserves to hold the title. He also expressed concern over the length of Reigns’ reign and the impact it may have on fan interest.
According to Kurt, the idea of multi-year title reigns comes from the territory era. When wrestlers were not on TV every week and fans had to come see them at live events.
In that era, a champion could hold the title for six to eight years and still be a draw for fans. However, in the current era, where wrestlers are on TV every week and on pay-per-view events every month. Angle believes that such long title reigns may lead to fan fatigue.
Cody Rhodes the next megastar after Roman Reigns?
Angle expressed his belief that WWE needs to create new stars to keep fans engaged, citing the missed opportunity to make Cody Rhodes a “megastar” at WrestleMania. He also joked about Reigns breaking Bruno Sammartino’s record for the longest title reign, saying, “S***, might as well just [break Bruno Sammartino’s record] now.”
Roman has been the Universal Champion since August 2020 and is approaching 1,000 days with the title belt. While Angle acknowledged Reigns’ status as the top performer in WWE.
He believes that the company needs to start thinking about creating the next big star before it’s too late. In conclusion, Kurt believes that WWE is running out of time to create the next big star and keep fans engaged.
Angle’s comments reflect a growing sentiment among wrestling fans and analysts. Who believe that WWE needs to invest in new talent to ensure its long-term success.
