Years after winning La Liga with record points, Jose Mourinho reportedly linked to Real Madrid return as Carlo Ancelotti’s exit looms

The best clubs in the world need not only world-class players but world-class managers as well. According to latest rumors, La Liga giants Real Madrid are considering AS Roma manager Jose Mourinho as their next target after Carlo Ancelotti bids farewell to the club.

The Portuguese was a part of Los Blancos a decade ago, and he may make a return to his former club. Jose Mourinho’s return could turn out to be extremely beneficial for Madrid, as the 60-year-old achieved great things during his first stint at Santiago Bernabeu.

Real Madrid reportedly consider Jose Mourinho for managerial role

Current Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti first joined the club back in 2013, coming in as a replacement for Jose Mourinho. After staying for two years, the Italian made a move to the Bundesliga. Ancelotti returned to the club in 2021, but he will be saying his goodbyes in 2024 to join forces with the Brazilian national team. Mourinho could possibly take Ancelotti’s place in Madrid next year if he does not sign a new deal with his current club, AS Roma.

Apart from the Serie A club manager, others, like Brighton coach Roberto De Zerbi and former Real Madrid player Xabi Alonso, are also being considered for the role. De Zerbi is doing great things for his club, while Alonso is also delivering quality results at Bayer Leverkusen. All three candidates have great potential, so we will have to see which one gets picked to coach the record 14 UCL winners.

Mourinho helped Madrid overthrow all-conquering Barcelona

Real Madrid and FC Barcelona have been rivals for a long time. The clash of the two Goliaths is nothing less than a war for the fans. Though people are constantly arguing over which one is the better side, Jose Mourinho left no room for a debate during the 2011–12 season.

The 2010–11 season saw Prime Barcelona under the leadership of Pep Guardiola. The club won La Liga and the UCL that season, and fans expected the Blaugranes to shine once again next year, but Jose Mourinho did not let that happen. Real Madrid created history in the 2011–12 season under Mourinho. Not only did they win the league with 100 points, they also set the records for most wins in a season (32), most goal difference (+89), and most goals scored (121).

It is still unclear if Jose Mourinho will join Real Madrid, but we will definitely witness a stronger and better Real Madrid if the Portuguese decides to do so.
