Yopaj highlights key difference that separates South East Asian server to others

Erin Jasper Ferrer, a.k.a. ‘Yopaj’, is gearing up for Dream League 22 with his team, Shopify Rebellion. The mid laner switched teams last year after ending the TI SEA 2023 Qualifiers.

Ahead of the new season, Gosu Gamers chatted with Yopaj. The interview has revealed some interesting facts that separate the DOTA 2 teams in the America and Asia regions.

Yopaj reveals one major difference in SEA teams

The major differences between the teams seem to lie in the leadership and captaincy, as reported by Gosu Gamers. The North American teams are more focused on discussing macro-strategies and planning. The communication seems to be more fluid, and every team member knows what their team expects them to do.

Yopaj goes on to say that the LAN events are more competitive. Stakes are high, which makes the teams and their dynamics stand out more. This is one sector where SEA teams can make a long-term investment.

But Asian teams have more skilled players in general, according to Yopaj. A solid leader seems to be the missing link in their chain.

When asked about his opinion on Dota switching to the DPC League System format, he thinks it is increasing the competition among the players. As more LAN-based events take place, it gives the players the chance to hone their skills by playing against more skilled opponents.

Changing a new team does seem to affect Yopaj’s style of play. His Shopify Rebellion teammates are very welcoming, and they are open to his strategies and style of play. The team is discussing how they can utilize Yopaj in the middle so that he can enable them in the section.

“As a mid-lane, you have so many more things to think about,”  adds Yopaj. For players playing in the same position as him, there are a lot of things to think about and make informed decisions about. This does not seem to bother Yopaj, and he relishes the challenge.

The last international was disappointing for him as Boom Esports crashed out of the qualifiers, losing to Execration. He has already started 2024 on a good note, qualifying for both DreamLeague Season 22 and the ESL One Birmingham 2024 qualifiers.
