Things are about to get fired up in the already heated lands of Brazil! Although the existing heat mentioned is mainly owing to the season and the political instability that persists in the country.
UFC has returned to Brazil following a long period of absence and title challenger Jamahal ‘Sweet Dreams’ Hill is looking to hype up the event.
The Light-heavyweight division has not had a stable champion for many years now and many are expecting someone dominant. The Ankalaev vs Jan fight ended in a controversial and disappointing draw and the title remained vacant. Current challenger Glover Teixeira has already won the title once but failed to hold on to his gold.
Jamahal on the other hand is currently on a three-fight win streak defeating the likes of Johnny Walker and Thiago Santos. So far all but one of his wins came via KO/TKO, granting him a power hitter reputation. Glover also has good striking but he relies on his strong ground game to dismantle his opponents.
What did Jamahal Hill actually say?
The two already squared off each other on a couple of occasions but the final ceremonial UFC weigh-in faceoff took place on Friday. Hill weighed slightly below the 205 thresholds at 204.5 pounds while Glover hit the signature point of 205. Next up was a short on-stage interview in which ‘Sweet Dreams’ addressed the fans,
“It’s an honor. I’m happy to share the cage with Glover Teixeira. Y’all can boo all y’all want to, y’all can say whatever, you’re going to die. We’re all going to die. But tomorrow I’m still coming to put on a show for y’all. Y’all need to understand how I’m coming.”
Glover the local hero of Brazil was much short and sweet with his message, “I’m ready, 100 percent prepared. Tomorrow’s going down.”
UFC 283 is scheduled for 22nd January at the Jeunesse Arena of Rio de Janeiro.
