The forty-year-old boxer Zhilei Zhang has made it known that he wants to compete against well-known heavyweight fighters. Though he is the WBO’s interim heavyweight champion, he regrets not getting the opportunity to face Anthony Joshua, the former world heavyweight champion.
There are rumors that Zhang and Wilder will be included on the Joshua vs. Ngannou fight card as well. After the ‘Day of reckoning’ incident, Deontay Wilder was no longer a contender to face the big fish, Anthony Joshua.
Zhilei Zhang disappointed after Joshua vs Ngannou bout confirmed
Following a clear victory over Otto Walin at the ‘Day of reckoning’ event, Anthony Joshua will take against Francis Ngannou, a difficult boxer who recently astounded everyone with his impressive performance against Tyson Fury. Although he was able to take down Fury, the bout was not enough to win, and it was later mired in controversy.
After it was established that AJ and Ngannou would fight, Zhang voiced his displeasure, claiming that boxing is no longer a competitive sport. He thinks that because AJ has turned into their “cash cow,” they won’t allow Zhang to confront him.
Zhang said, “I can’t say I’m disappointed it’s a matter of personal choice, Joshua has his personal choice. If you look at Ngannou, he’s come into the sport and has a record of 0 and 1. He’s the cash cow. If I fought Ngannou I would make a ton of money. What is boxing? Is it a business or a competitive sport? That’s the question.”
Is Zhilei Zhang going to fight Deontay Wilder?
Following his devastating defeat to Joseph Parker at the “day of reckoning,” Deontay Wilder was removed from the running to take on Anthony. Instead, he will be featured on AJ’s undercard. This will mark AJ and Wilder’s second appearance in the same event, albeit in separate bouts.
According to recent sources, Zhilei Zhang and Deontay Wilder may be included on the undercard of Anthony Joshua vs. Francis Ngannou. Zhilei Zhang’s victory in two consecutive fights against Joe Joyce last year has reinforced his case. He expressed his desire to face all of the top heavyweight fighters, including AJ, Wilder, Fury, Usyk, and others.
At the moment, Zhang may face Deontay Wilder, as AJ is currently scheduled with Ngannou. As Zhang prepares to meet the victor of Usyk vs. Fury, Wilder will face a formidable task as he looks to recover from his humiliating loss to Parker.
